Vivian Castleberry, Founder April 8, 1922 - October 4, 2017
Vivian Anderson Castleberry has devoted the last two decades of her life to issue of peace, arbitration and reconciliation. She led a group that founded Peacemakers, Inc,. (1987) and is the namesake of the UNT Castlewberry Peace Institute, which was created by Peacemakers, UNT (University of North Texas) is the only major university in the Southwestern that offers a degree in peace education and is researching peace issues proving that peace is profitable and that peace is much more sustainable when women are included in international decision-making groups. She chaired the first of three international women[s peace conferences in Dallas in 1988 that drew 2,000 delegates from 57 countries. Vivian is a retired prize-winning journalist, a published author and an avid activist for humanitarian issues. She and her late husband, Curtis, are parents of five daughters. She has 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
