HISTORY

Peacemakers Incorporated, a Texas non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization founded and incorporated in March, 1987 to sponsor international women’s conferences on peace. The first such conference was held in August 1988 on the campus of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. Over 2,000 delegates from 57 countries attended the conference. Peacemakers’ Second International Women’s Peace Conference, which was held in September 1999 at the Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe in Dallas, Texas with the theme "Healing as a Prelude to Peace."

The Third International Women’s Peace Conference, in July of, 2007, was held at the Adam's Mark Hotel and Convention Center in Dallas, Texas and focused on "Empowering Peacemakers." Over 1300 delegates from 45 countries and 37 states attended the conference.

Between conferences, Peacemakers Incorporated sponsors and/or supports a variety of peacemaking efforts, both locally and globally. In 1991, Peacemakers Incorporated produced a recording of lullabies from around the world. Proceeds exceeding $13,000 from the “Lullabies for Peace” sales were distributed to women and children in conflict areas of former Yugoslavia, El Salvador, Haiti, Rwanda and Bosnia.

Through the years, Peacemakers has held PeaceMeals among its membership, including invited guests from many ethnicities, backgrounds and perspectives, to “break bread” together. Peacemakers Incorporated has remained grounded in its mission, values and perspectives on personal, local, national and international levels to explore and implement peaceful solutions to human conflict.
